Three P’s of Personal Success

Success can be elusive. It can find its way out of our lives. Why? Well part of the reason why is because we ‘settle’. We allow answers, solutions and circumstances to enter our lives that are not congruent with who we really are.

For example, we may be asking for ‘the answer’ to a desired relationship. Or we may be praying for a ‘solution’ to a financial situation. But when that relationship comes in the form of a person that may or may not be ‘the right person’, we settle.

And if that ‘financial solution’ comes in the form of a J-O-B. . . when it’s not the kind of work we know we’re cut out for, we settle.

If we allow certain circumstances in our lives – ultimately settling for less than greatness – we accept less than greatness for ourselves. Consequently, our greatness is muddied and oppressed by our own decisions.

Here are three things you must know to enhance your life of personal success. I call them the Three P’s of Personal Success.

Principles
We all stand for something. And if you don’t know right now, it would be extremely beneficial to grab a piece of paper and start taking a mental, physical and spiritual inventory of your life. If you don’t stand for anything, you’ll end up a nothing. By taking a stand, you adopt a set of principles in your life that guide your decisions and outcomes. Your life will be as rich as your principles. Choose carefully and wisely. And just as important – do not comprise your principles.

Passion
If you have a certain vision for your life – a way you see your success falling into order with a clarity of how to get there, chances are you have a passion about that vision. Passion is a great thing. Don’t cheat yourself and chase something that you are less than passionate about. Sure, you can succeed at a less-than-passionate position. But why would anyone want to do that?

Oh yeah! It’s possible to be passionately wrong about something. That can be confusing too. So how do you make sure you don’t go off the deep end about something you shouldn’t? Check out the first “P” above – Principles.

Personal
This “P” is very powerful. You must make your personal success goal extremely personal. It’s not enough to say you are just going to ‘do’ something. You have to reach deep down and trigger something emotional. It has to hurt – so to speak. To achieve something, to see it to the end, where it really pays off, you have to develop an itch – an almost unquenchable thirst that will only be satisfied by the achievement of your success.

Don’t stop until you’ve seen it through. Your Principles, Passion and Personal attachment will make sure you do.
